چکیده
We address the issue whether ARPES measurements of the spectral function A k (ω) near the Fermi surface in the normal state of near optimally doped cuprates can distinguish between the marginal Fermi liquid scenario and the spin-fluctuation scenario. We argue that the data for momenta near the Fermi surface are equally well described by both theories, but this agreement is nearly meaningless as in both cases one has to add to Σ ′′ (ω) a large constant of yet unknown origin. We show that the data can be well fitted by keeping only this constant term in the self-energy. To distinguish between the two scenarios, one has to analyze the data away from the Fermi surface, when the intrinsic piece in Σ(ω) becomes dominant.

We have given a topological approach to the understanding of high T c superconductors from its equivalence with ν = 1/2 FQH state. Difficulty of achieving a high transition temperature for the high temperature super-conductors [1] which are doped Mott insulators via the conventional mechanism [2] leads to different approaches to pairing due to the presence of phenomenological constraint-the ord...
متن کاملExtremely correlated Fermi-liquid description of normal-state ARPES in cuprates.
The normal-state single particle spectral function of the high temperature superconducting cuprates, measured by the angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES), has been considered both anomalous and crucial to understand. Here, we report an unprecedented success of the new extremely correlated Fermi liquid theory by one of us [B. S. Shastry, Phys. Rev. Lett. 107, 056403 (2011)] to descr...
متن کاملTheory of the Marginal Fermi Liquid spectrum in the local treatment of the large - U Falicov - Kimball Model
The Marginal Fermi Liquid (MFL) hypothesis proposed by Varma et .al is derived from a consistent treatment of local spin fluctuations in the Falicov-Kimball (FK) Model. Within an infinite-dimensional mean-field approach, which is exact for this model in d = ∞, a marginal Fermi liquid susceptibility and single particle self-energy are obtained near half-filling, and a Fermi liquid phase is recov...
متن کاملFractionalized Fermi liquid with bosonic chargons as a candidate for the pseudogap metal
Doping a Mott-insulating Z 2 spin liquid can lead to a fractionalized Fermi liquid (FL*). Such a phase has several favorable features that make it a candidate for the pseudogap metal for the underdoped cuprates. We focus on a particular, simple Z 2 -FL* state which can undergo a confinement transition to a spatially uniform superconductor which is smoothly connected to the ‘plain vanilla’ BCS s...
متن کاملQuasiparticles in the Pseudogap Phase of Underdoped Cuprate
Recent angle resolved photoemission [1] and scanning tunneling microscopy [2] measurements on underdoped cuprates have yielded new spectroscopic information on quasiparticles in the pseudogap phase. New features of the normal state such as particle-hole asymmetry, maxima in the energy dispersion and accompanying drops in the spectral weight of quasiparticles agree with the ansatz of Yang et al....
